In response to the growing number of older adults who want to age in the place of their choosing and who face barriers to accessing non-medical services, Healthy Aging Alberta (HAA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services, is developing a provincial home and community supports model for the coordination and delivery of health-promoting community-based services to older adults across Alberta who are experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing psychosocial, mental health, or addictions issues.

This multi-year investment has enabled the development and implementation of a phased project, which includes delivering coordinated, wrap-around, community and home-based support programs in regions across the province. The project sees local community organizations providing a range of flexible and necessary supports to older adults that promote their psychosocial and mental well-being in alignment with a coordinated provincial service delivery model.

The purpose of these non-medical supports includes providing some form of respite for caregivers, addressing loneliness, isolation, and anxiety, preventing frailty, and promoting social connectedness and mental wellness for older adults and their caregivers.
